From the founder

I've been on both sides of this rink.

I'm Noah de la Durantaye, the former captain of Princeton men's hockey. Before that, I was a kid sending cold emails to coaches, recording highlights on a parent's iPhone, and trying to figure out where I fit in the recruiting puzzle.

I built Backcheck because the system today is broken. Hockey families are stuck choosing between $3,200 advisors they can't afford and spammy lead-gen platforms that promise the world and deliver junk mail. Most just figure it out alone — and miss opportunities they earned.

Backcheck is the tool I wish I'd had: real Ivy and D1 expertise, structured into a clear roadmap, with zero of the upsells. Just the path.

How it works

Three steps to a real recruiting plan

Built around how college coaches actually evaluate players — not a generic sports template.

1

Build your profile

Tell us your age, position, league, stats, GPA, and where you want to play. Takes 6 minutes. Honest, hockey-specific questions — no fluff.

2

Get your plan

Backcheck generates a personalized 12-week roadmap, a tiered list of realistic schools, and ready-to-send emails to specific coaches.

3

Execute and adjust

Weekly digests tell you what to do next. Ask the Captain anything. Update your profile as your season progresses — your plan adapts.

What you get

Everything in one place. Nothing extra.

Six tools, one platform — built around how college coaches actually evaluate players.

12-week recruiting plan

A week-by-week action list calibrated to your age, grade, and where you sit in the NCAA timeline.

Smart target school list

Tiered "reach / target / safety" programs that fit your level, academics, and preferences. With reasoning.

Coach email generator

Personalized intro emails to specific coaches. You review and send from your own email — no spam, no automation.

Highlight reel brief

What footage to capture, how to edit it, how to caption it. The blueprint coaches actually want to see.

Ask the Captain

Direct, on-demand answers grounded in NCAA rules, junior hockey paths, and Ivy/D1 specifics. Ask anything — no marketing fluff.

Weekly digest

Every Monday: this week's three most important tasks. Drives momentum and keeps the family aligned.

Our why

We know what this costs you.

If you're reading this, you already know the math. Hockey is the most demanding youth sport in North America — financially, logistically, emotionally. Six-figure family investments. Dinner-table conversations about tryout politics. Weekends spent in rinks 200 miles from home. And underneath all of it, the question every parent carries quietly: is any of this actually working?

We built Backcheck for the families in the middle of that question.

Too many kids miss opportunities they earned because nobody taught them when to email a coach, what to put in a highlight reel, or how to navigate the gap between U16 and college. Too many parents invest tens of thousands of dollars a year and still feel like they're guessing. Too many families learn the recruiting playbook the same week their child becomes too old to use it.

That gap is what we're closing. Not with promises. Not with sales pitches. With a clear, structured, honest plan — the kind of guidance every hockey family should have access to.

We've lived this. We know what's at stake. And we built Backcheck because the families who give this much to the game deserve a fair shot at the answer.

FAQ

Questions parents actually ask.

How is this different from NCSA?
NCSA is a profile platform that makes money by getting you in front of as many programs as possible — which is why families complain about spam and pressure. Backcheck is a personal recruiting coach. We don't sell your data, we don't push lead-gen, and you're never on a sales call. Cancel anytime, no questions asked.
How is this different from generic recruiting platforms or sports apps?
Three things. First, hockey-only depth: Backcheck is calibrated to NCAA hockey rules, junior hockey pathways (USHL, NAHL, prep), and the realities of D1 vs. D3 vs. Ivy recruiting — not a one-size-fits-all sports template. Second, we adjust to where your kid actually is in the timeline (sophomore vs. senior, U16 vs. U18, late bloomer vs. early committer). Third, you get a structured plan, a tiered school list, and ready-to-send coach emails — not just generic advice.
What ages and levels does Backcheck work for?
U14 through U20, across D1, D3, Ivy, ACHA, USports, and prep school recruiting. We're focused on players targeting college hockey, not pros. If your child is in 8U through 12U, we love your enthusiasm but it's too early — come back when they're 13+.
Will Backcheck guarantee my kid gets recruited?
No, and run away from anyone who promises that. What we guarantee: a clear, personalized plan; an honest assessment of which schools are realistic; ready-to-send outreach emails; and the same playbook that works at every level of college hockey. The talent has to be there. We make sure it gets seen.
Why is the founder running calls? That's not "automated."
It is for the Starter tier — that plan is fully self-serve. Pro and Family include founder calls because some families want a real person in the loop, and we charge for that time. As we scale, calls will move to a roster of trained hockey-savvy coaches. The platform does the heavy lifting either way.
Do you support women's hockey?
Yes — D1, D3, ACHA-W, USports, and prep all supported. The recruiting timeline and rules are slightly different and Backcheck adjusts accordingly.
What does early access include?
Waitlist members get: first invitations to the Pro tier when we launch, locked-in introductory pricing for life, a free founder call when you sign up, and direct line to the founder during the beta. Limited to the first 100 sign-ups.
